Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT)


LIT provides three cycle system education, training and research, playing a pivotal role in the economic and sociocultural development of the region with a distinctive educational philosophy of active learning throughout its programs, in all disciplines and at all levels ensuring that it stays firmly in touch with the needs of industry and the community in the regions it serves. LIT has an international reputation for developing and implementing innovative Library projects, products and services through its Library and Information Resources Centre and has led Tempus projects in the Library and Information Science field dealing with Staff Development, Information literacy and general Library Reform. In 2014 LIT were recognized by the European Projects Association for Distinguished effort in the Development of the European Union through European Projects, improving library services and for efforts in building a better society for the EU TEMPUS project Developing Information Literacy for lifelong learning and knowledge economy in Western Balkan countries. LIT are also partners in the Tempus project 530345 Access to Society for People with Individual Requirements (ASPIRE) which aims to foster the rights of individuals with special needs in Armenia and Georgia to access education and they led the design and development of the “Use the Library” module for the ASPIRE Curriculum. LIT have also led important national library and information literacy projects such as the Library Network Support Services (LNSS) project from 2008-2011 which dealt with the Implementation of vital library and information literacy initiatives across multiple universities in Ireland.

Transylvania University of Brasov (UTBV)

University Transilvania of Brasov, www.unitbv.ro, is an accredited higher-education public institution. Since then, the university has continuously developed currently being, by its educational offer, scientific research and number of students, one of the Romania’s largest university and the best reputed higher education institution in the Region 7 – Centre. The Pyramid Group (TPG)

The Pyramid Group offers a large range of quality specialist industry, public sector and academic training covering areas such as libraries, legal (national and international), public administration, special needs /disability awareness training in Ireland via the Irish Wheelchair Association and for primary school teachers as well as in the EU and PC’s. It has provided specialized training in English for German public service employees covering education and social services as well as providing translations and interpreting. It particularly specializes in providing Bologna Process ECTS module training and EU Common European Framework differentiated English language training in communication skills and in terminology acquisition in these fields using both traditional and also ICT approaches. TPG are also a provider of project websites and of Blended Learning training and a provider of various quality training courses in the Management field covering topics such as Marketing, Strategic Planning, Customer care, Time management, Communication and listening skills, Presentation skills, decision making, problem solving, leadership skills as well as management of change. TPG also provide expert advice in the areas of quality assurance, ECTS and Bologna compliance as well as editing and publication processes and have experience of these activities from previous Tempus projects.

University of Crete (UOT)

University of Crete is a relatively new, medium size academic institution in Greece, yet already known, both nationally and internationally, for its innovative approach to education, it’s considerable research activity and dynamic character in international cooperation. The Library is formed as an integrated unit –this being one of many innovations introduced by the University of Crete in the Greek academic environment- which allowed it to develop in an exponential way and mark significant achievements that distinguished it as pioneer of Greek academic libraries. It has put a special emphasis on library networking and cooperation evidenced by its substantial contribution of the Library and its staff to the establishment of the HEAL-LINK Greek Academic Libraries Network. The Library has undertaken key projects for development and further improvement of its quality standards and resources, staff training as well as the connection of Library services to curricula and the local community. University of Crete have been involved in various innovative library projects such as Tempus project 517117 Developing Information Literacy for lifelong learning and knowledge economy in Western Balkan countries which aims to develop libraries and information literacy services in the Western Balkans.

Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT)

Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) was founded in November 1, 1951 under the name “Higher State Agricultural Institute”. In 1991 it was named “Agricultural University of Tirana”. AUT is located a few kilometers outside the capital-city.

Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) is the only training center of undergraduate, graduate, research, training and extension in agriculture and food in Albania. It was established on November 1, 1951. AUT is a unique university campus in Albania, located in north-western of Tirana, just 7 km away from the center of Tirana city. University FAN S NOLI of Korce (UNIKORCE)

UNIKORCE is the highest educational institution in the region of Korça. The University has inherited the best experience and achievements of the Albanian national education. The University of Korça was created on 7 January 1992, on the basis of the High Agricultural Institute of Korça (1971-1992). It was composed of three faculties: Agriculture, Education, and Economics. In 1994 it was given the name “Fan S. Noli” and in the same year The School of Nursing, was opened.

The University of Korce offers study courses in the fields of agriculture, economics, teaching and medicine. The Bologna Declaration is part of its daily program and they are properly respecting the Law of Higher Education, this way integrating Korce's university in the European Space of Higher Education. The University has participated in various Tempus projects covering such topics such as curriculum development through regional cooperation, improvement of teaching quality, curriculum reform.

University of Montenegro (UoM)

The University of Montenegro (UoM) was founded on 29 April 1974. Today it includes 23 organizational units: 20 faculties and 3 institutes. It is the only one public university in the country, established by the state. UoM is an integrated university. The seat of the UoM is in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. The units and study programs are located in ten Montenegrin towns and they include 20 faculties, three institutes and two independent study programs. Besides its units, UoM also includes the Rectorate, Information System Centre, University Library and the Facilities Maintenance Service.

In 2012/13 there were a total of 1.280 employees at UoM, 850 of which were engaged in teaching. In the same year there were 21.595 students registered at all three cycles of studies (undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral).

UoM is a comprehensive university, organizing studies in all areas of sciences and arts. Study programs are organized so as to ensure higher education for all important segments of economic and social development in Montenegro and they are grouped according to faculties. Study programs structure has been aligned with the Bologna Declaration principles since 2004/05. Library affairs are performed by the University Library and the units’ libraries.

The University Library is central institution which carries the librarianship development at the University. It is a member of national library system – COBISS and it has developed Digital Repository of the University with an open access, which includes PhD thesis and every other relevant material.

University of Priština – Kosovska Mitrovica (UPKM)

University of Pristina-Kosovska Mitrovica was founded in 1970 in Pristina, since 1999 University has been dislocated and operates in Kosovska Mitrovica. The University has approximately 10 000 full-time students and 1500 employees. The University has the status of a state university, as a comprehensive/multidisciplinary university, and comprises 10 Faculties. UPKM's main activities are to widen its academic knowledge into the region of Kosovo and Metohija, next to that special attention is addressed to the third role of University and spreading of our research results to the community. The University of Prishtina (UP)

The University of Prishtina (UP) “Hasan Prishtina“ is a public higher education institution founded in 1970 with four Faculties, while today it has 14 faculties located in Pristina and three branches in other cities of Kosovo with about 55000 students and 2000 academic and administrative staff. It is a member of the European University Association and maintains wide contacts with Western European and American universities and institutions.

In 2001-2002 UP approved three cycle studies and the introduction of ECTS credit system according to Bologna process - three (Bachelor) + two (Master) + three (Doctorate).UP has LLL Center, Center for Excellence and Teaching, the Language Center, Computer Center, the Center for Human Rights, Student Services Office, Office for Academic Development, Quality Assurance Unit, International Relations Office, Office for Gender Equality, Finance and Procurement Department, Office for Human Resources and Information Technology Department. These centers, offices or departments establishes policies for Quality Assessment and mechanisms for Quality Assurance based on European models; programs for continuous education of teacher and trainings; preparatory courses for students etc. UP participates in many EU funded projects, mostly as partner, but as well as coordinator.

University of Sarajevo (UNSA)

University of Sarajevo is the leading university in Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the leading universities in the region. This is traditionally the most popular and the most prestigious higher education institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its oldest member is Gazi Husrevbey Library, founded in 1537. Until 1975, the University of Sarajevo was the only university in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the beacon of development of higher education and science in the country. University of Mostar

University of Mostar is a higher education institution which organizes and performs university studies, scientific and professional work. It is one of eight public Universities in B&H and the only one where Croatian is used as the official language. The University is founded by cantons in which the Croatian people are dominant. It consists of 10 faculties and the Academy of Fine Arts. Today, over 16000 students study at the University of Mostar. The educational process is conducted through more than 60 study groups at the undergraduate and 30 groups at the graduate and postgraduate level. University of Mostar is internationally oriented and its intention is to become fully integrated into the European Higher Education Area. From the academic year 2005/2006, teaching process at the University of Mostar is conducted in accordance to Bologna process. IRO is responsible for interuniversity cooperation programmes and agreements, cooperation and contacts with relevant international organizations, exchange programs and the management of international relations. At the University there are 11 separate libraries and one main library without joint Library Network Support Services at the university level.

Kantonalna i univerzitetska biblioteka Bihac (KBBI)

The County and University Library Bihac (KBBI) is the main library in the County which services 350.000 people. It has worked since the establishment in 1950 being the main center for information literacy development within the area. They have a special place in the LNSS project owing to the fact firstly KBBI have never participated in either Tempus or ERASMUS + before and secondly they are also unique in the project in that they are the only library in the Consortium who serve both Students and the General public being both a Public Library and a University Library. KBBI oversee all libraries within the Federation of B & H such as city, town, school, Faculty libraries etc. They are Public Institution, opened for ALL citizens, but with dual policy- Public and University (Federation). In one hand KBBI supervise the work of Faculties' libraries and in the other one they are main library for the county. KBBI are the county library that looks after all libraries in the county (town ones, school ones etc.) providing them any required assistance and supervising them at the same time, but also university library looking after all faculties’ libraries and all students at the University of Bihac. KBBI looks after all public libraries in the county but also university library looking after all Faculties’ libraries and all students at the University of Bihac.

KBBI have been involved in various EU projects such as, IPA Border Crossing Projects- developing The Mobile Library Service in the Karlovac County and Una-sana County in B & H- hence becoming the only library within Bosnia and Herzegovina having a Mobile library Service. KBBI are well known in the field of international library collaboration and each year the KBBI organizes an International librarian’s conference (now in its 12th year) hence they have developed a wide network of contacts throughout the Western Balkan and beyond.
